Rare signed limited first edition copy, only one of 100, of the illustrated book "Elsie and the Child" by Arnold Bennett with drawings by Edward McKnight Kauffer (1890-1954). The inscription reads: "This edition is limited to 750 numbered copies of which 100 are specially bound and signed by the author and artist numbered 1-100. This copy is number 28 [signed Arnold Bennett, E. McKnight Kauffer]" Cassell and Company Ltd, La Belle Sauvage, London EC4. Printed in England at the Curwen Press 1929. Printed and stencilled at the Curwen Press Plaistow. Hardback with original slipcase. Outer slipcase aged with dust, scuffs and marks, spine reads: "Elsie and the Child - Cassell - £5 5s." Book cover in better condition showing signs of age, marked (particularly on spine and corners) and dusty. Inside pages in good clean condition, some light foxing, with the text and illustrations on the handmade paper clear and colourful.
