Lissitsky, Illustrated Newspaper, issue 5, 1939

Rare Soviet constructivist poster style design by El Lissitsky for a cover of the weekly Illustrated Newspaper - Illustritovannaya Gazeta, issue #5 from March 10, 1939. The photomontage features Stalin overseeing crowds of workers saluting the 13th Congress of the Bolshevik Communist Party. The background is the picture of the Building of the Palace of the Soviets in Moscow with the statue of Lenin at the top. This gigantic structure was planned to be erected on the site of the demolished Christ the Saviour cathedral but was never completed.

This sale is only for the cover and the rest of the newspaper is missing. It is in a good condition overall with tears on the left side and a small scuff near the miner's head.
