In The Spotlight: 100 Years of Surrealism
18th November 2024
[via our WordPress blog:]
Established in 1924, the Surrealist movement of non-conformist abstract symbolism and dreamlike imagery influenced the visual arts and performing arts, including literature, poetry, painting, music and society as a whole.
This avant-garde social and cultural movement is defined by Andre Breton in his 1924 Surrealist Manifesto as “Psychic automatism in its pure state, by which one proposes to express — verbally, by means of the written word, or in any other manner — the actual functioning of thought. Dictated by thought, in the absence of any control exercised by reason, exempt from any aesthetic or moral concern.”
To celebrate 100 years of Surrealism, we’re featuring a few of our original vintage posters with artwork by Salvador Dali, Pablo Picasso and other artists influenced by this revolutionary art form (click on the images for more information):
All our original vintage posters from around the world are available to view and order online (with worldwide delivery), and at our gallery:
