Akademie Fur Aviatik Aviation Academy Hohlwein

Original antique advertising poster for the Akademie Fur Aviatik / Aviation Academy (Academy for Aviation) by the notable German poster artist Ludwig Hohlwein (1874-1949) featuring a beige coloured silhouette of a plane flying in front of two towers in shades of blue, purple and green of the Frauenkirche cathedral against a pale blue and white background with the stylised lettering below. Founded in Munich in 1909 with an opening in 1910 at their new fully equipped airfield at Puchheim by members of the Royal Bavarian Automobile Club, the Akademie Fur Aviatik promoted all aspects of aviation for visitors and "gentlemen flyers" including planes and other flying machines, hangars, a workshop, telegraph office, restaurant, museum and library with a race course for competitions; the academy held five aviation meetings and closed in 1913 due to bankruptcy and lack of further financing. Printed in Munich. Large size. Fair condition, small paper losses, tears and yellowing on margins, restored tears on image, backed on linen.
