Derry Toms McKnight Kauffer

Rare original vintage advertising poster for the London department store Derry & Toms in Kensington: Now proceeding Summer sale at Derry & Toms Kensington W8. Stylish and colourful early design by one of the most renowned poster artists of the 20th century Edward McKnight Kauffer (1890-1954), featuring sailing boats racing in a regatta with the text box below, communicating a fresh summer feeling through a mix of Japanese woodcut, expressionist, and Fauvist influences. Derry and Toms (1860-1973) was founded by Joseph Toms and his brother in law Charles Derry and the company opened their new Art Deco style department store building in 1933, which is now a Grade II Listed Building and still home to the Kensington Roof Gardens on the 7th floor. Good condition, restored loss and tape marks, backed on linen.
