Original vintage advertising poster for an art exhibition The Great Utopia The Russian and Soviet Avant-Garde 1915-1932 held at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York City from 25 September to 15 December 1992. Dynamic design featuring an image of a constructivist poster by the notable Russian painter and designer Gustav Klutsis (1895-1938) for the Spartakiada All-Union Olympiad held in Moscow in 1928 showing cut-out photographs of divers in front of a photo of rowers and people swimming at sea, a row of young men by a pool ready to play waterpolo and a lady reaching up to dive in front of a cut out photo of sailing boats and men in sailor uniforms below, with the stylised text running diagonally against abstract geometrical shapes and bold blocks of colour for visual effect, with the information text for the exhibition in the white margin below. This poster image is one of a series of nine posters for the games that Klutsis / Kluzis was commissioned to design by The Supreme Council of Physical Culture. Very good condition, faint creases in margins, printed on thick paper.
