Guinness Lovely Day for a Guinness RAF

£3,250.00

Original vintage Guinness advertising poster - Lovely Day for a Guinness - featuring an iconic design by the notable artist John Gilroy (John Thomas Young Gilroy; 1898-1985) depicting the brand's trademark smiling toucans flying in formation over a military airfield using their colourful bills to carry two pints of Guinness each as two Royal Air Force men with large moustaches, wearing RAF uniforms look on in shock, the hangars visible on the other side of the green field and the stylised red text above. One of the world's most popular beer drink brands, Guinness is an Irish dry stout founded by Arthur Guinness in Dublin in 1759. The toucan was introduced to the company's marketing campaign in 1935 by the advertising firm S.H. Benson that employed John Gilroy, who became best known for his Guinness advertising posters; the animals were dropped from Guinness adverts in 1982 when the company changed advertising agency. Printed in Great Britain by Sanders Phillips Co. Ltd, London. Horizontal. Good condition, staining, foxing, small restored paper loss in bottom right corner, backed on linen.
