£325.00
Original vintage advertising poster for the Vacuum Oil Company featuring a stunning Art Deco style design of a truck and classic car driving in front of industrial buildings with a steam ship at sea below a bi-plane in front of a map of the world as a sun in the background set within a decorative frame border, gargoyles perched on sides and the date 1931 below. Founded in 1866 by the inventors Mathew Erwing (1815-1874) and Hiram Bond Everest (1830-1913), the Vacuum Oil Company produced the Gargoyle steam cylinder motor oil brand; in 1931 the company merged with the Standard Oil Company of New York (founded 1911) to form the Socony-Vacuum Oil Co. (1931-1963), which became Mobil (1963-1999) then ExxonMobil in 1999. Very good condition, minor staining, minor creasing, punched holes at the top, backed on board.
