Activist Day DDR Tag Der Aktivisten
£275.00
Original vintage poster for the first Tag der Aktivisten / Day of the Activists on 13 October 1949 featuring a striking image showing a worker in a helmet with a mining shaft tower in the background, a circular Aktivist VEB logo with a hand grasping a spanner on a red banner on the right and the FDGB Freier Deutscher Gewerkschaftsbund / Free German Trade Union Federation logo of a handshake on the left hand. The Day of the Activists was held in the GDR East Germany to reward good performance by the best workers with medals and bonuses to increase production and improve the economy; it was established after a miner Adolf Hennecke extracted 24.4 cubic metres of coal in a shift at the VEB mine Karl Liebknecht (well over the usual 6.3 cubic metres) on 13 October 1948. Good condition, folds, tears, pin holes, paper loss in top right corner.
