Original vintage Soviet space propaganda poster celebrating Cosmonautics Day USSR / День Космонавтики СССР featuring a dynamic design depicting a smiling Yuri Gagarin (Yuri Alekseyevich Gagarin; 1934-1968), the Soviet pilot and cosmonaut who was the first man in space on 12 April 1961, in a helmet and spacesuit looking at the viewer in front of planet earth on the dark blue shaded background, a space rocket marked with a hammer and sickle on the side and the date 12 IV 1961 as the flames below and the title text above stars with a flight line around the globe. Cosmonautics Day has been celebrated annually in the Soviet Union and Russia since 1962 and internationally since 2011 as the International Day of Human Space Flight. Artwork by Valentin Viktorov (1909-1981). Very good condition, restored tears, restored creasing, backed on linen.
