The Highway Code Zero

Original vintage poster published for The Highway Code exhibition organised by the Ministry of Transport and held in the ticket hall at Charing Cross London Underground station from 15 November to 10 December. Fantastic surreal illustration by the notable graphic designer Zero (Hans Schleger; 1898-1976) of a family with two children walking with the mother and boy in front featuring giant eyes in place of their faces and father and girl behind featuring ears in the place of their faces, the text below in stylised black and blue letters. The Highway Code was first published in 1931; the Ministry of Transport (1919-1941), reorganised and renamed during the 20th century, became the Department for Transport in 2002. Printed in Great Britain by Waterlow & Sons Limited, London and Dunstable. Fair condition, staining, tears and restored paper losses on corners, backed on linen.
