Original vintage travel poster for Austria / Autriche issued by KLM - Fly KLM The Skiers' Airline with John and Lois Jay - Sun, Snow and Fun in Austria. Great image of a snowy scene by the Austrian artist Hermann Kosel (1896-1983) featuring people wrapped up warmly with blankets on a traditionally decorated sleigh / sledge being pulled by two horses with skiers on a slope, a church spire and snow covered chalets on the mountains in the background, the stylised lettering above and below. KLM (Koninklijke Luchtvaart Maatschappij / Royal Dutch Airlines; since 1919) is the flag carrier of the Netherlands. An early promoter of skiing, John Jay (1915-2000) was a notable American ski filmmaker who shared his unique style and passion for skiing, from rope pulls to heli-skiing, through filming, travel adventure lectures, books and articles; he married Lois Goodnow in 1942 and the couple travelled and filmed together; they divorced in 1973. Printed in Austria, for the Austrian Federal Government by Bruder Rosenbaum, Vienna. Good condition, restored tears, backed on linen.
