Stepan Razin Ruklevsky


Original vintage Russian film poster for the re-release of the 1939 epic movie Stepan Razin about the Cossack hero leader Stepan Razin (Stepan Timofeyevich Razin; 1630-1671) who led the 1670-1671 uprising against the Tsarist oppressors and, even though his wife gets captured by the Tsar's army and dies under torture, Razin does not weaken his stance. Dynamic illustration depicting a man wearing a traditional tunic standing with his right arm stretched out forward, a large armed crowd behind him in front of a sailing ship in full sail, the title below in stylised letters. Artwork by the notable artist Yakov Ruklevsky (1884-1965). Good condition, small losses, folds and tears on margins.
