Empire Games 1938 Sydney Harbour Bridge Hurdles Athletics

Original vintage sport event poster for the 1938 Empire Games Feb. 5... Feb. 12... Sydney calls you... Australia's 150th Anniversary Celebrations January 26 to April 25 1938. Great design by Charles Meere (1890-1961) of an athlete in a Union Jack flag t-shirt hurdling over the Sydney Harbour Bridge with a view of the city and river and the stylised title text above and below. The 1938 British Empire Games (now known as the Commonwealth Games) was the third British Empire Games sport event, held in Sydney Australia to coincide with the 150 year anniversary of the foundation of the first British settlement in Australia; the games hosted competitors from 15 Empire countries participating in athletics, boxing, cycling, lawn bowls, rowing, swimming and wrestling. Good condition, restored minor tears, creases and small paper loss, staining, backed on linen.
