Original vintage London Underground sport event poster for the European Swimming Championships held at the Empire Pool Wembley from 6-13 August 1938. Stunning design featuring a black and white photograph of a swimmer diving into the water with her arms outstretched, the vibrant green of her swimsuit contrasting with the background, the text diagonally above and further information below the figure of the diver in black and green letters. First held in 1926, the 5th European Swimming Championships event in 1938 took place at the Empire Pool in Wembley London, built in 1933 as the largest indoor pool in the world at the time with underwater illumination and space for 4,000 spectators; the 1938 event was won by Germany (1), Denmark (2) and the Netherlands (3); the Empire Pool was renamed Wembley Arena in 1978 then renamed the SSE Arena Wembley in 2014; the LEN European Aquatics Championships is currently held every two years.
