Prince Heinrich Flight Race Prinz Heinrich Flug
£7,750.00
Rare original antique poster for the Prinz Heinrich Flug 10.-17. Mai 1913 / Prince Heinrich Flight Race 10-17 May 1913 featuring a great design by Ernst Reiss (1884-1962) showing a pilot in aviation goggles looking out to the viewer with an early flying machine and bi-plane in the background above mountains on the horizon, the bold blue title lettering below. This air race was named the Prinz Heinrich Flug after the patronage of Prince Albert Wilhelm Heinrich of Prussia (1862-1929), the brother of the Kaiser, who was the first royal to learn to fly and one of the first people to hold a pilot's licence in Germany. These events were held from 1911-1914 to test German plane models including military planes; the 1913 race was won by the German aviation pioneer Lieutenant Ferdinand von Hiddessen (1887-1971) in a DFW Mars monoplane, an early military aircraft built by Deutsche Flugzeug-Werke in 1913. Large size. Good condition, restored tears, backed on linen.
