Original vintage travel poster for Algeria and Tunisia via Marseille issued by the Compagnie Generale Transatlantique shipping company and the Chemins de Fer PLM railway company - Rapidite Confort Transbordement Direct Algerie Tunisie via Marseille / Speed Comfort Direct Transfers. Great design depicting the Ville d'Alger passenger ferry ship sailing at sea towards the viewer in a diamond shape against a red background, two blue arrows pointing down from the ship and train company text to the destinations with the service benefits diagonally along the diamond border above the central image. The Ville d'Alger ocean liner (1935-1968) provided cruise services between Marseille in France to Algeria in North Africa under 20 hours when launched; her second funnel was built as a dummy, only the front chimney was used. Founded in 1861 (having been established in 1855 by the brothers Emile and Issac Pereire), the Compagnie Generale Transatlantique CGT was a French shipping company known as French Line and Transat; it merged with Compagnie des Messageries Maritimes de Marseille in 1976 to form the Compagnie Generale Maritime CMA CGM. The French railway company PLM (Compagnie des Chemins de Fer de Paris a Lyon et a la Mediterranee; 1858-1938) operated train services primarily in the South East region of France between Paris, the French Alps and the Cote d'Azur and rail services in Algeria.
