Great St Bernard Pass PLM Roger Broders

Original vintage PLM Paris Lyon Mediterranee railway travel poster for the historic Col Du Grand St Bernard / Great St. Bernard Pass lying between Mont Blanc and Monte Rosa in the Alps connecting Martigny in Valais Switzerland with Aosta in Italy (a route used since the Bronze Age). Stunning Art Deco design by the notable French artist Roger Broders (1883-1953) depicting the Great St Bernard Hospice on the Great St Bernard Lake with the 1905 statue of Saint Bernard in the foreground and the sunset glowing on the snow topped Mont Blanc mountain in the background, the text below reading: Au départ de Chamonix le tour du Mont Blanc par les autocars PLM / Tours of Mont Blanc by PLM coaches from Chamonix. The Great St Bernard Hospice was founded by Saint Bernard of Menthon in c.1050 and is famous for its St Bernard breed of dog trained to help in rescue operations. Good condition, several restored paper losses, restored tears, restored staining, backed on linen.
