Original vintage poster issued by the Soviet travel company, Intourist. Printed for the German market, Wolga - Besuchen Sie die UdSSR (Volga - Visit the USSR). Fun and colourful image of a sailing boat decorated in a traditional Khokhloma style with a matryoshka (матрeшка; Russian nesting doll) and accordion player on board sailing on the Volga River. The Volga is the longest river in Europe and is viewed as the national river of Russia, fondly referred to as "Mother Volga" (Волга матушка) in Russian folk tales. Good condition, minor repaired tears, water stain on top of the poster.
