Original vintage travel map poster for London The Bastion of Liberty by the British artist, illustrator and poster designer Kerry Lee (1902-1988) to encourage tourism after World War Two featuring a detailed pictorial map of London with its notable and historical buildings, churches, streets, parks and trees, sports, mainline railway stations, markets, the City and the River Thames and depictions of people including scientists, monarchs, statesmen, architects, popular rogues, sailors, distinguished visitors and residents with images and references to WWII including the Battle of London showing the Men & Women of Civil Defence Services in Action during the Blitz and a 1940 quote by Winston Churchill below the stylised title - We would rather see London in ruins and ashes than that it should be tamely and abjectly enslaved -surrounded by an equally detailed and decorative frame with coats of arms and illustrations of places of architectural, sporting, cultural, historical and natural interest in Greater London and the neighbouring counties.
