Malta Aberdeen and Commonwealth Line

Original vintage cruise liner travel poster promoting the Aberdeen and Commonwealth Line cruise ship services from England to Australia featuring a scenic view over the historic city centre in the Grand Harbour Port of Valletta in the Mediterranean island country of Malta with seagulls flying over ships and sailing boats at sea in the foreground and the stylised title text above with the distinctive red and white Maltese Cross and gold and red George Cross designs in the corners (following the Great Siege during World War Two from 1940-1942, the George Cross was awarded to Malta in 1942 by King George VI and was incorporated into the Maltese flag in 1943). The Aberdeen & Commonwealth Line was founded in 1933 as a result of a buyout between the Aberdeen Line (founded 1825; under the joint control of the White Star Line and Shaw, Savill & Albion Line since 1905) and the Australian Commonwealth Line (founded 1916); the company was dissolved in 1957. Lithograph printed by Gibbs and Gibbs in London. Good condition, restored stains and folds, backed on linen.
