Original antique World War One recruitment poster issued a year before compulsory conscription for men aged 18-41 was introduced in 1916: Who's Absent? Is it you? Iconic image of a man known as John Bull (the personification of Britain and British values: honest, direct and patriotic) wearing a Union Jack / British flag waistcoat with a top hat, jacket, boots and holding a walking stick in one hand, pointing out at the viewer with his other hand in front of soldiers standing in line in the background with buildings on fire on the left side, the stylised text above and below. Published by the Parliamentary Recruiting Committee, London, Poster No 125. Printed by Andrew Reid & Co., Ltd., Newcastle-On-Tyne. Very good condition, restored folds and repaired tears in margins, backed on linen.
