You Are Wanted Too Join The ATS WWII
£550.00
Original vintage World War Two poster - You are wanted too! Join the A.T.S - featuring a dynamic design with a black and white photograph of a young lady marching in an Auxiliary Territorial Service uniform against a red and blue background in front of infantry men marching with their rifle guns in the background, the bold black and white text above. The use of photos was to portray both a more realistic and more idealistic image of the service rather than making the girls or the message more glamourous (a matter of concern and controversy within the Ministry of Information during the Second World War). The ATS (Auxiliary Territorial Service, 1938-1949) was the women's branch of the British Army during World War Two. The first women recruited to the Auxiliary Territorial Service (ATS) worked as cooks, clerks and storekeepers. As time went on the range of duties expanded and women served as office, mess and telephone orderlies, drivers, postal workers, ammunition inspectors and signal operators. By June 1945, there were over 190,000 members of the ATS from all across the British Empire and Commonwealth. Printed for Her Majesty's Stationery Office by A.C. Ltd. Very good condition, folded as issued.
